THANK GOD HIP HOP, POP ART AND (YOUR) DESIRE ARE BACK, FILM 47:48 min, 2013

The film 'Thank God Hip-Hop, Pop Art And (Your) Desire Are Back' was produced as part of Jerszy Seymours exhibition 'The Universe Wants to Play' in 2013. The first part of the exhibition 'Cave like Spaceship, Brain like Caveship'  consists of a surreal living space described as a psyche-sphere blasting through the universe of possible realities made from 'Every-Topia' here now and easyily available materials. Filled with both the useful, useless, precise and ambiguos, all potential tools breathing metaphor, it is a playground ready to be configured into potential psychological make ups, an inhabitation of the mind as much as an inhabitation of the planet. In response to the installation, the film looks to make another type of psyche sphere journey, this time based in reality. Following the concept of the 'Every-Topia' the trip becomes the ring of the berlin s-bahn and the story is based on the quest for the Holy Grail, an ancient story that could be seen as either the search for the fulfilment of desire or according to Emma Jung, the search for the divine however unattainable in the minds of medieval man. The Holy Grail story is essentially the archetypal roadtrip, and the script of `Thank God Hip Hop Pop Art and (Your) Desire are Back' is a cut and paste from a number of films and books including Excalibur, Space Odyssey 2001, Repo Man, Monty Pythons Holy Grail and The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test however the end rejects the finality of society being saved by the finding of the grail (represented by mirrors)  and the return of the sword (represented by the bone as the primordial tool) and instead the revolution is presented as a dance and the cycle continues.  The characters are represented by the coloured hoodies worn by the actors who sometimes swap roles and the back drop of the film is the daily reality inhabited by commuters on the s-bahn. Rather than a result as narrative however, the film 'Thank God, Hip hop, Pop Art and your desire are Back' would like to see itself as real life abstract tool towards the transformation of reality.
